Carpal tunnel is the compression of the median nerve at the wrist, it can causes thickening of the sheath and transverse carpal ligament. It is due to repetitive actions and will come on gradually. Things such as excessive wrist extension and flexion, numbness, tingling on the radial side of the hand from the ring finger, pain or waking at night, clumsiness or weakness in hand all can affect carpal tunnel. If you have carpal tunnel you can continue activities, but may have to alter slightly so that you don't increase the pain. It's important to avoid heavy manual work for about 2 months. Myotherapy is a therapy that can assist in relieving the pain and improve movement.
![]() You don't have to be a tennis player to have what they call tennis elbow. It's all to do with the repeated over extended wrist action. May find that when you bend your hand towards your wrist there is pain as well as pain on the outside of the elbow. Remedial massage and Myotherapy techniques can assist with the pain.
Starts as an inflammatory lesion on the front and back of the shoulder, scarring, thickening and shrinkage of the capsule that surrounds the shoulder joint.
There are 3 stages. 1) Abrupt loss of motion and pain that refers to the lateral brachial region. 2) Frozen stage – dull ache present at night or painful on movement. 3) Rotator cuff and scapula stabilisers may weaken. Thoracic Outlet Syndrome involves the neck, shoulder and arm. Symptoms can be pain, numbeness, tingling, poor circulation in hand or forearm as well as weakness in the hand muscles. It is the compression of neurovascular structures in the thoracic outlet. It can be caused by trauma or an extra rib.
To treat Throacic Outlet Syndrome Sandra Pegg’s Myotherapy can help by using various remedial (deep tissue) massage techniques along with stretches and exercises to help increase muscle strength. What is wry neck?
Wry neck is relatively common. It is characterized by sudden onset of pain and stiffness in the neck and upper back. Comes from damage and subsequent locking of one of the facet joints within the neck. This then results movements in the neck to become limited. If forces are excessive due to repetitive actions or high impact or even sustained for too long. It can involve damage to cartilage or tear connective tissue around the joint. Causes · Upon waking up in the morning, · Sudden movements of the neck, · Poor posture, · Slouching, · Excessive prolonged forces, · Poor sleep posture. Signs and Symptoms · Typically feel one sided sharp pain, · Inability to turn head to painful side. · Symptoms increase with activities that require the head to turn to painful side. For example a head check in the car, bending forwards, neck extension, sideways movements, slouching or heavy lifting. Myotherapy is able to help with releasing the muscles to allow for pain to decrease and movement to increase.
